The 22nd IGORR (International Group on Research Reactor) Conference organized in collaboration with the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) will be hosted by JAEA, from 15 to 19 June 2025 in Mito, JAPAN with a technical tour of the Nuclear Science Research Institute of JAEA.
IGORR takes place for the first time in 30 years in Japan. We expect many participants from worldwide for this important get-together of the Research Reactor Community.

Topics

The title of the IAEA meeting will be Technical Meeting on Integrated Management Systems for Sustainable Safe Operation and Effective Utilization of Research Reactors. There will be no dedicated TM-sessions but rather the whole conference will be a joint event. “Innovative methods” will be included in all sessions as appropriate without any special such session.
The three days of sessions would like to encourage presentations on the following topics:

Concept of integrated management system for RR
establishment, implementation and continuous development of management systems for RRs on the basis of the IAEA safety standards; experiences, challenges and lessons learned in relation to management systems for RRs.
RR Operations and Maintenance
experiences during RR operation and maintenance; maintenance management; human resource development and training programs.
RR Ageing Management
managing reliability issues; ageing management; modernization; refurbishment; long term operation and life-time extension; decommissioning planning.
RR Safety and Security management
issues related to safety of reactor facility; staff and the environment; changes to regulation; public acceptance.
RR Fuels
LEU fuel fabrication and supply; conversion of from HEU to LEU fuels; conversion lessons learned; storage and disposal of spent fuel.
RR Utilization (RI production is part of that)
nuclear science and technology including support for nuclear power programs; neutron beam applications; industrial and medical applications, including radio-isotopes production and irradiation/transmutation technology; strategic and business plans.
New RR Projects
national/regional plans or construction updates of new RRs; lessons learned from feasibility studies, building and operating new RRs; innovative Methods in RR analysis and design proliferation resistance.

Welcome Drink (Venue: TBD)

Get in touch before the conference starts at the Welcome Drink. The Welcome Drink will take place from 17:30 – 19:00 on Sunday 15 June 2025. It will be preceded by a Pre-registration which ensures a smooth registration prior to the conference.

Conference Dinner (Venue: TBD)

The Conference Dinner of IGORR 22nd/IAEA TM will take place on Tuesday 17 June.

Technical Tours

On Thursday 19 June, participants will have the possibility to participate in the IGORR 22nd/IAEA TM technical tour and visit the Nuclear Science Research Institute of JAEA.

Venue

The technical sessions of the conference will take place in the MITO city civic center.

This facility is primarily used as a civic hall, and is made up of GLOBIS Hall, Udom Hall, conference rooms, exhibition rooms, etc. as a base for artistic and cultural activities and liveliness and interaction among citizens.
G7 Interior and Security Ministers Meeting was held on 8 to 10 December, 2023.

Mito city

The venue, Mito City, is the prefectural capital of Ibaraki Prefecture and the only core city in the prefecture with a population of approximately 270,000 people. Transportation access is good, approximately 1 hour by train or car from Tokyo or Narita International Airport.
Lake Senba lies in the city center, and there are many historical and cultural facilities around it, including Kairakuen which is one of Japan's top three gardens, and Kodokan, a domain school.
